IPLT20 – 2024
The BCCI has finally revealed the schedule for the IPL 2024 which everyone was waiting for it. The schedule was announced on Thursday only for the first 21 matches, but they’ll later they will announce for the rest of the matches, once they know the dates for the General Elections.
This year the IPL is going to be very important as it’s entering in its 17th season. The pleasure is building up, and the tournament is just a month away. It feels like only yesterday when Ravindra Jadeja hit that winning boundary for Chennai Super Kings, but it’s actually been 8 long months since that incredible night in Ahmedabad. That’s the magic of IPL – it leaves a lasting impression!
One big challenge for IPL 2024 was that it was expected to clash with the Lok Sabha elections. This has happened twice before, leading to some tricky decisions. In 2009 the whole IPL was moved to South Africa and in 2014 it was split between the UAE and India. However in 2019, there was no clash and the IPL was held completely in India. This year despite the assumptions the IPL chairman confirmed that the tournament will stay in India, but we’ll have to wait for more details.
Now, let’s talk cricket! This year’s IPL has a lot in store. Mumbai Indians have a new captain in Hardik Pandya, and Gujarat Titans have Shubman Gill. And then there’s MS Dhoni’s farewell. Dhoni had hinted last year that winning the IPL in 2023 would have been the perfect time for him to retire, but he’s back for one last run this year. In what might be his final season, Dhoni is important of his early days – growing his hair and using his old bat sticker. Only Dhoni can make such heartfelt gestures.
Moving on to CSK’s biggest rivals, Mumbai Indians made headlines even before the tournament began by announcing Hardik as their new captain, replacing Rohit Sharma. This decision caused a anger on social media, but the team believed it was the right time for the change. Meanwhile the IPL auction saw records being shattered, with Pat Cummins and Mitchell Marsh landing massive deals. Cummins became the first player to surpass the 20-crore mark, while Starc became the costliest player ever with KKR spending a whopping ₹24.75 crore on him. Harshal Patel emerged as the most expensive Indian player, with Punjab Kings securing him for ₹11.75 crore. So, the stage is set for IPL 2024. Will Cummins, Starc live up to expectations?
10 cities that are announced as hosts for the first 21 games, the league stage will be played in Delhi, Dharamshala (Punjab Kings) and Guwahati (Rajasthan Royals). PBKS and RR will continue to play two home games each at their second homes.
The tournament will begin with defending champion Chennai Super Kings taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore in Chennai on March 22 at Chepauk. Who will be the breakout star of this year? Well, the journey to finding out has begun!
